Look for about a thumb’s width of wiggle room between your big toe and the end of the shoe. At the mid-foot area, the shoe should feel secure, yet comfortable, and there should be no slipping at the heel.
Shoes that are too large for your feet hurt just as much as shoes that are too small. They don’t provide the support you need and lead to chafing. Small shoes will cramp your toes, and leave you feeling achy by nightfall. While it is possible to stretch shoes a little, some materials have more give than others, so don’t count on it.

How to Care for Your Feet
At the end of the day, most of us want to kick off our shoes and put our feet up. It’s important to care for your feet, so you’re not dealing with ongoing problems. Make sure they get the support they need with a little TLC.
Always practice good hygiene and indulge in a pedicure once a month. You don’t need to splurge on a spa experience if it’s not in the budget, an at-home pedicure works just as well.
To prevent chafing, you can stick a small piece of moleskin inside your shoe. If your feet tend to be sweaty, consider using an antiperspirant stick to reduce wetness. The moisture from sweat can cause or worsen blisters on your toes and heels. Silicone heel cups and arch-supporting insoles could be just what you need to soothe those aching heels.
